Day/Night Blinds

One blind, two moods, tuned hour by hour.

Alternating sheer and solid bands on a continuous loop. Align the bands for filtered light and privacy-with-view, offset them for near-solid coverage — without raising or lowering a thing.

Why they suit this apartment brief

Melrose Arch living rooms are usually one wall of glass facing the piazza, the pool deck or the street. A day/night blind lets you tune exactly how much of that view you keep, hour by hour, without swapping blinds or layering a second product.

It's genuinely the "sheer plus blind in one" pitch: privacy without darkness during the day, near-blockout coverage in the evening by offsetting the bands, and a clean contemporary look that doesn't fight a city-luxe interior.

Being honest about the limits

Even fully offset, a day/night blind isn't a true blockout — light seeps at the band edges, so a bedroom that needs total darkness is better served by a blockout roller or a layered solution. The sheer bands are also more delicate than a solid fabric near reach height if there are pets or small children in the home, and moisture-sensitive fabrics aren't the right call for a steamy en-suite bathroom — aluminium venetians handle that room better.

Where they go in a Melrose Arch home

Living rooms, dining areas and studies are the sweet spot — anywhere the brief is "privacy with light," which is exactly the classic request in a street-facing or piazza-facing sectional-title unit. Standard roller hardware applies: chain or motorised control, cassette options, and either inside or outside mount depending on your reveal depth.

What a day/night blind costs

Twice the fabric on the tube puts a day/night blind a step above a plain roller. Per square metre installed that is R1,300 to R2,000 chain-operated, rising to R2,800 to R4,000 with a motor. Band width, a cassette to hide the roll and a semi-blockout fabric all push a particular window towards the top of its band.

Narrow windows are charged at a minimum rather than by area, because the hardware and the fitting visit are the same at any size. Your own per-window figures are confirmed in writing after the free measure.

Fitting day/night blinds across Melrose & Melrose Arch

The "privacy with light" brief comes up constantly on street-facing living rooms in Dunkeld and Illovo, and just as often in Birdhaven's boutique apartment blocks and the garden-facing rooms of Houghton Estate. We measure and fit day/night blinds across all four.
